Whether you sit the GMAT here is decided by a treaty, not by your file. Twente's admission page splits the maths requirement in two. 'For candidates that received their Bachelor's degree in a country that ratified the Lisbon Convention, at least Mathematics A or B at pre-university level (Dutch: VWO) is required' — that is a line on your school record, not a test. And then: 'For other countries or if the level of mathematics cannot be established, a GMAT (10th edition) test score of at least 600 no older than 5 years is required. Students who take a GMAT Exam instead of the GMAT (10th edition), will need a test score of at least 550 no older than 5 years.'² The Lisbon Recognition Convention is the Council of Europe and UNESCO instrument governing degree recognition across the Europe and North America region; ENIC-NARIC, the official network that administers it, states it has been 'signed and ratified by 55 countries', and India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh and China are not among them.⁽¹²⁾ So the practical reading is that a European or North American applicant clears this with secondary-school maths, and an applicant from South Asia, most of Africa or China is looking at a 600 — a demanding score, well above the mid-600s median of the schools that merely recommend a test. Two cautions before you act on that. The second trigger is not about your country at all — 'or if the level of mathematics cannot be established' catches any file whose transcript does not show the maths, wherever it is from. And the Council of Europe's own signature chart returned HTTP 403 to this site's check on 2026-09-06, so the party list above is stated on ENIC-NARIC's authority and should be confirmed for your own country before you book a test. Twente also repeats, on the same page, that 'each case is reviewed individually and assessed on its own merits'.² There is no GRE route published. Does the University of Twente MSc Business Administration require the GMAT?
For some applicants, and the thing that decides it is your country rather than your grades. Twente's admission page states that 'for candidates that received their Bachelor's degree in a country that ratified the Lisbon Convention, at least Mathematics A or B at pre-university level (Dutch: VWO) is required' — a line on your secondary-school record, no test. It then states that 'for other countries or if the level of mathematics cannot be established, a GMAT (10th edition) test score of at least 600 no older than 5 years is required', or 550 if you sit what Twente calls the GMAT Exam instead. The Lisbon Recognition Convention has been ratified by 55 countries across the Europe and North America region, and India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh and China are not among them — so applicants from those countries are on the GMAT branch, and 600 is a demanding bar. Two cautions: the second trigger, 'if the level of mathematics cannot be established', can catch a transcript from any country; and the Council of Europe's own treaty register returned HTTP 403 to our check on 2026-09-06, so confirm your own country's status before you book a test. No GRE alternative is published.
Will my English-taught degree waive the Twente English test?
Only if it comes from a country on Twente's list, and the list is unusual in who it includes and excludes. The core group is Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA, where you need a three-year degree and to have studied there physically for at least three years, with Canadian degrees needing at least 50% English instruction. A second group covers a mix of European and African countries — including Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Gambia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore and Suriname — where the language of instruction must be stated on the degree certificate, final transcript or diploma supplement, and 'a statement or a proficiency letter from your university is not sufficient'. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Kenya and South Africa are on none of those lists. And Twente is blunt about the edges: individual waiver requests outside the stated exceptions 'cannot be considered, as the University of Twente does not offer English waivers'. Otherwise it is IELTS Academic 6.5 with 6.0 per section, TOEFL iBT 90 with 21 per section, Cambridge C1 Advanced 176, PTE Academic 63 or LANGUAGECERT Academic 70 — and the certificate must be in hand before the deadline.
