Is this the same as the Stockholm School of Economics?
No, and it is an easy and expensive confusion. The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE, Handelshögskolan i Stockholm) is a private business school that runs its own admissions partly outside the national portal, charges SEK 360,000 per master's programme to fee-paying students and requires a GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE score alongside essays, references and a half-day assessment centre. Stockholm Business School is the business school of Stockholm University, a large public university, and this programme is admitted through universityadmissions.se on the national calendar with no tuition for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens. Can I get a scholarship for this programme?
There are two realistic routes and they work differently. Stockholm University runs its own Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme, which 'covers the whole tuition fee for a Master's programme', is open to fee-liable citizens from outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland who are admitted in the first (international) admission round, and gives priority to applicants who rank Stockholm University as their first choice at universityadmissions.se. Eligible applicants are emailed an application form when the selection results are published, and results come by the end of April. Separately, this programme is on the Swedish Institute's eligible list for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals for 2026/2027, as 'Management, organisation & society', course code SU-31065 — which matters because SI awards against a published programme list rather than by subject, and several management master's at other Swedish universities are absent from that list. The SI award covers full tuition plus SEK 12,000 a month and a SEK 15,000 travel grant, but only for citizens of 34 listed countries with demonstrated work and leadership experience. The list is republished each November, so check the edition for your cycle.
What kind of management master's is this?
A critical, social-science one rather than a functional toolkit. The core year covers Management Theory and Analysis, Business and Society, Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurial Self, Cross-Cultural Management and Leadership in a Globalized World, Managing Human Resources, Power and Resistance in Organizations, Leadership and Management in Organizations, and research methods — the university describes the aim as helping you 'question and critically analyze prevailing structures and practices, established modes of thought and simplistic tool-box systems'. The third semester is electives, an exchange or a 30-credit internship, and the fourth is a 30-credit thesis that the university expects to be 'a scientific piece of work with a contribution that advances research'. If you want a finance-heavy or consulting-drilled MiM, this is not that programme. If you are coming from humanities or social sciences, or you want a route towards doctoral study alongside a management career, the design is unusually well suited to you.
