There is no GMAT requirement for this programme and no admitted-student score average is published, so we quote no range — but the GMAT matters more at Uppsala than the word 'optional' suggests, and the reason is worth understanding before you decide to skip it. Uppsala ranks applicants for its places on an explicit two-step ladder: first by GMAT score, and then by higher-education credits, counted up to a maximum of 285. There is no essay, no interview, no reference letter and no motivation statement in that ladder. So the selection is mechanical rather than holistic, and a submitted GMAT score puts you in the group that is considered first — which is close to the opposite of how a test-optional policy usually works at the schools we profile. The academic gate in front of that ladder is the harder filter for most international readers: a bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen and 90 credits in business studies. That is a substantial business major, not the 30-credit grounding some Swedish programmes ask for, and it means Uppsala is not a route for an engineering, science or humanities graduate converting into management. English is evidenced at the Swedish 'English 6' level, which University Admissions equates to IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5. If you are mapping the test-optional field, read our [MiM in Europe without the GMAT](/blog/mim-in-europe-without-the-gmat) guide alongside this — Uppsala belongs on it only in the narrow sense that the test is not compulsory.
Uppsala University does not publish a GMAT range.
| GPA | A bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen from an internationally recognised university, including 90 credits in business studies — a substantial business major, not a conversion-master entry route |
|---|---|
| Work experience | Not required — a pre-experience master, with an optional internship in the third semester |
| MiMs we track admitting without a required GMAT/GRE | 70 of 110 |
A GMAT or GRE is not required to apply to the Uppsala University MiM — it is one of the 70 of 110 Master's in Management we track (about 64%) that admit without a required test. See every European MiM you can apply to without a GMAT on our MiM without the GMAT shortlist, or read how GMAT waivers work.
Most European MiM programs, including this one, accept the GRE and often the GMAT Focus Edition or a school-specific test as alternatives, and weigh the whole application — academics, internships, essays, and interview — rather than the score alone.
