Mannheim requires no test — and then publishes a table showing you exactly what one is worth, which is a more useful thing to know. Admission is decided by a ranking, and the school states the arithmetic in full: the bachelor's final grade scores up to 60 ranking-points on a published scale that starts at 60 for a German 1.0 and falls two points per tenth of a grade to zero at 4.0; a GMAT or GRE scores up to a further 60, from 1 point at a GMAT Focus 555 (or 600 on the 10th edition) up to the full 60 at 685 (730); prior coursework of at least 30 ECTS in economics, mathematics or statistics — of which at least 12 ECTS must be economics — is worth 32; a semester or degree spent studying abroad is worth 22; and prior practical experience is worth 2 points per stint, or 4 for completed vocational training or a dual degree, capped at 6. That is 180 points in total, and the school is blunt about what happens next: "we directly compare applicants according to their ranking-points and only admit the best applicants", with no minimum score published and roughly 400 places set by the State of Baden-Württemberg. Two consequences follow. Because the test can move you by 60 of 180 points — a third of the board — calling it optional undersells it badly for anyone whose bachelor's grade is not outstanding. And because only these five criteria are scored, Mannheim states plainly that "additional documents, such as letters of recommendation or motivational letters, will not be taken into consideration": there is no essay to write and no reference to chase.
