Overview

IESE is best known internationally for its MBA, which sits at the top of several global tables. The Master in Management is the school’s answer to the pre-experience market — a focused, one-year degree for students who have just finished, or are about to finish, an undergraduate degree and want to launch a business career without first accumulating work experience.¹ It is taught in English and delivered in Madrid, while the school itself is headquartered in Barcelona.

The programme is compact by design: 11 months, full-time, with a September start.¹ That makes it one of the shorter top-tier European MiMs — closer in length to the one-year UK programmes than to the two-year French grande école model — and it is pitched at students who want to enter the job market quickly.

Curriculum & Structure

The MiM is built around a core of general-management fundamentals — strategy, finance, marketing, operations, and leadership — taught through IESE’s signature case method, the same pedagogy the school uses on its MBA.¹ The year is organised into modules, with opportunities to specialise and to take on applied or international components as the programme progresses.¹

Because the degree is pre-experience, the emphasis is on building analytical and managerial foundations rather than on re-tooling experienced professionals. The case method and IESE’s faculty are the draw: students learn alongside, and from, an institution whose primary business is executive and MBA education.

Class Profile

IESE designs the MiM for recent graduates and final-year students, who typically hold between zero and two years of work experience.⁵ The published profile is deliberately compact: the average age at entry is 23, and the cohort is drawn from 31 nationalities, taught in English throughout.⁵ The class is genuinely international — roughly a third of students are Spanish (34%), with another 35% from the rest of Europe, 16% from Asia, 10% from the Americas and 5% from Africa and the Middle East.⁵ IESE frames the programme around diversity of background rather than a single template — students arrive from management, economics, engineering, humanities and science degrees alike.

Application & Deadlines

Admission is round-based, with roughly ten monthly rounds across the cycle and decisions issued about four to six weeks after each submission.² The application requires an official undergraduate degree (or proof of expected completion), transcripts, a recommendation letter, and — for non-native English speakers — a TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent score. Candidates also submit an aptitude score: IESE accepts the GMAT, the GRE, or its own IESE admissions test.²

Exact dates for the September 2027 intake had not been published at the time of writing. As a reference point, the September 2026 cycle (which IESE labels the Class of 2027) ran from a first-round deadline of 3 October 2025 to a tenth-round deadline of 5 August 2026.² Because class sizes are capped and scholarships are allocated on a rolling, merit basis, applying in an earlier round is an advantage.

Tuition & Funding

Total tuition for the September 2026 intake is €52,000.² On admission, students pay a €10,000 commitment fee to secure a place, which is deducted from the total; the remaining €42,000 instalment falls due in September.² A €120 application fee applies. IESE assesses candidates for merit-based scholarships as part of the admissions process, and the rolling round structure means earlier applicants generally have better scholarship visibility.
