Working in Belgium after your MiM

Post-study work route Search year after higher studies (zoekjaar / année de recherche) 12 months, non-renewable

Non-EU Master in Management graduates of a Belgian higher-education institution can apply for the search year, receiving an 'A card' marked 'job seeker' valid for 12 months. You file at your local municipality at least 15 days before your student card expires, with your Belgian degree, health insurance and proof of sufficient means; the Immigration Office decides within 90 days. During the search year you have unrestricted access to the labour market and may work legally.

The search year is not renewable, so to stay on you must move to a work-based permit once hired: an employer applies for a single (combined) permit, whose work-authorisation element is issued by the competent Region — Brussels-Capital, Flanders, Wallonia or the German-speaking Community — or you obtain a professional card for self-employment from the Region.

Tuition vs. salary

Tuition across these programs runs from €1,670 to €22,950, against a median graduate salary of $89,576.

Tuition is shown in EUR and salary in US dollars (the FT's reporting currency), so treat this as a rough orientation, not a precise return-on-investment ratio. Living costs, scholarships and exchange rates all move the real number.
