There is no GMAT or GRE requirement for USI's Master in Management, and no admission test of any kind: USI states plainly that 'there are no admission tests; a candidate's application dossier determines admission'. The one USI programme that does require a test is the Master in Finance, and then only for applicants holding a bachelor's from outside the EU/EFTA — the Management programme is not covered by that rule, and no admitted-student score average is published, so we quote no range. What is compulsory is the English certificate. USI accepts only IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge English and TOEIC, at CEFR B2+ — IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 85, Cambridge First at grade B, or TOEIC 860 listening-and-reading with 170 in speaking and writing — and it will not process an application that arrives without one: 'Any application submitted without valid English certification at the time of review will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.' A bachelor's taught entirely in English replaces the certificate, evidenced by an official document naming the language of instruction. Certificates older than three years as of 1 September are generally not accepted. What actually decides the outcome is the dossier: the average grade, the ranking of your undergraduate institution, and the fit shown in the motivation letter and CV, against a cap of 70 places. If you are mapping the test-free field, our [MiM in Europe without the GMAT](/blog/mim-in-europe-without-the-gmat) guide covers the alternatives.

Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) does not publish a GMAT range.

GPAA bachelor's degree of at least three years / 180 ECTS from a recognised higher education institution, with 80% of the credits earned at a recognised institution and at least 50% at the university awarding the degree. Selection weighs the average grade and the ranking of the undergraduate institution; a bachelor's in economics or management 'may represent an advantage' but is not required
Work experienceNot required. USI's admission page sets no work-experience condition — selection runs on the academic record, the motivation letter and the CV
MiMs we track admitting without a required GMAT/GRE 70 of 110

A GMAT or GRE is not required to apply to the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) MiM — it is one of the 70 of 110 Master's in Management we track (about 64%) that admit without a required test. See every European MiM you can apply to without a GMAT on our MiM without the GMAT shortlist, or read how GMAT waivers work.

Most European MiM programs, including this one, accept the GRE and often the GMAT Focus Edition or a school-specific test as alternatives, and weigh the whole application — academics, internships, essays, and interview — rather than the score alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does USI's Master in Management require the GMAT or an entrance exam?
No. USI states that 'there are no admission tests; a candidate's application dossier determines admission', and the GMAT/GRE requirement that exists elsewhere in the faculty applies only to the Master in Finance, and only to applicants with a bachelor's from outside the EU/EFTA. What is not optional is English: USI accepts only IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge English or TOEIC certificates at CEFR B2+ — IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 85, Cambridge First grade B, TOEIC 860 listening-and-reading with 170 in speaking and writing — and states that an application arriving without valid English certification 'will be considered incomplete and will not be processed'. A bachelor's degree taught entirely in English replaces the certificate if you can evidence the language of instruction officially. Certificates more than three years old as of 1 September are generally not accepted.
